We understand Narayana, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We meditate on Vasudeva, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

May that Vishnu inspire and enlighten us! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We understand that Narayana is the Supreme Reality. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All-Pervasive, both within and without. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is present in each one of us, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

in the Heart of Hearts, as Antaratma,– <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

as Witness Consciousness. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also understand that <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is the same Brahma, Hari, Vishnu, Indra and the Supreme Consciousness. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can we relate to Him and realize Him? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a first step, we must stabilize the thought that Paramatma shines forth <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

as a Spark in the Flame of Jeevatma; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeevatma and Paramatma are together, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

one within the other. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and they are ONE. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeevatma should get identified with Parmatma. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Narayana Suktam <\/em>reveals this Truth <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

by employing the imagery <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

of a Flame and the Spark within it. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us go to the Mundaka Upanishad in which (Ch. 3. 1-3) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

we find how the Jeevatma gets identified with the Parmatma. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is presented with the help of the imagery of TWO BIRDS <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

sitting on the same branch of a tree. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the same tree, two birds are perched, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

each as the friend of the other, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

always found together.                                                                     <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the two, one is fully engrossed <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

in eating the fruits of the tree, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

while the other bird simply look on <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

without eating.                                                                                  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the two that are perched on the same tree, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

one is the Jeevatma, the eating bird, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

which is under delusion and suffers <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

because of its incapacity. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when it looks at the other bird <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

who is the Lord, full of Glory, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

commanding all respect, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the suffering bird gets freedom <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

from all its suffering. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When one sees the gold-coloured bird, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

who is the Lord, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the source of the Supreme Brahman,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the Creator of the entire Universe, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the Lord of all beings, the Purusha, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

the Paramatma, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

he gets rid of all sinful and pious reactions. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He becomes Pure and gets identified <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

with the Spiritual Form of the Lord Himself. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story of the TWO BIRDS <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

is a symbolic representation <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

of Human Condition. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suffering bird stands for Jeevatma. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jeevatma\u2019s identification <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

with Ego, mind and body <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

is the cause of its suffering. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 When Jeevatma turns away <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

from the Ego-mind-body complex, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and looks at the gold-coloured Bird, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

which symbolizes the Witness Consciousness, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

it gets free from  all suffering. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeevatma becomes one with Paramatma. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To reach this identity, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

to become one with Paramatma <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

is the goal of spiritual journey. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

May that Vishnu impel us <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

towards realizing  the Goal! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thought that <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am not the Ego-mind-body <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

but I am the Brahman\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

should get well established <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 through repeated remembrance — <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

through Smaranam.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
